I am an omnivore – that means I consume plant and animal foodstuffs.
The United Nations would have us all shift to a meat and dairy free diet – to save the planet of course, which would cause me terrible health issues….. Well I can forego the dairy because I am also casein intolerant, but I eat meat and fish protein to survive. Not for too much longer if what the UN is urging gets put into place.
Just a passing question here, but who was it gave the United Nations the authority to dictate what we may and may not eat? I always believed they were an unelected group of hob knobbing bureaucrats, earning lots of money but doing little, if anything else. I must have missed the history lesson where they taught us about the election of the UN to world dominance! Can anyone say Agenda 21?
If we are to believe the scientists, after we emerged from the primordial swamp, and evolved into upright creatures with some similar features to modern human beings, we became hunter gatherers. We did not farm our crops, we went out looking for things to kill and eat, and (possibly) the women stayed close to the cave, looked after the bambini’s and scrounged around for roots in the ground, nuts and berries and fruits when in season. Vegetarians they were not!
Now you have to remember that the United Nations is committed to the THEORY of Climate Change – more correctly, Anthropogenic Climate Change, climate change cause by human beings (and in some cases cows, sheep, pigs and goats etc). In their wisdom (er?) they have decided that there are far too many of us humans populating this planet. That we need to reduce the population, eat differently and severely restrict our usage of fossil fuels which cause AGW!
The Guardian UK tells us:
As the global population surges towards a predicted 9.1 billion people by 2050, western tastes for diets rich in meat and dairy products are unsustainable, says the report from United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) international panel of sustainable resource management.
It says: “Impacts from agriculture are expected to increase substantially due to population growth increasing consumption of animal products. Unlike fossil fuels, it is difficult to look for alternatives: people have to eat. A substantial reduction of impacts would only be possible with a substantial worldwide diet change, away from animal products.”
Professor Edgar Hertwich, the lead author of the report, said: “Animal products cause more damage than [producing] construction minerals such as sand or cement, plastics or metals. Biomass and crops for animals are as damaging as [burning] fossil fuels.”
Watch out folks —– closing down sale coming to a butcher near you!The UN is plugging away unmercifully to get us all signed onto a global contract of reducing CO2. Crazy really when you consider we are a carbon based life form! Now we learn we are all to become global vegetarians…
So will I require a doctor’s prescription to buy my weekly supply of food? Who knows, keep watching this space.
